Storm Gareth to batter UK with 80mph winds and possibility of flooding

Storm Gareth is set to bring up to 80mph winds over the next few days, but what is causing it?

A yellow weather warning is currently in place until Friday and the Met Office says the dramatic weather could bring severe disruption to the UK.

A Met Office spokesman said: “There will probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer and delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.”

The storm was caused by a deep area of low pressure, and is the third named storm this year after Storm Erik in February and Freya earlier this month.

The UK is expecting a huge amount of rain, however after the rain clears, the storm is expected to bring strong winds.

The Met Office has warned that with the strong winds will come a chance of damage to buildings, power cuts and travel problems.
